This article will help you clarify the main differences in climbing shoe soles. We will outline basic information about the history of climbing shoes, their most famous manufacturers, and at the same time we will present the characteristics and specifics of modern rubber soles on climbing shoes.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Specifics of climbing shoes<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Modern climbing shoes are made from a large number of materials from leather to synthetic fabrics to materials made from natural rubber. The soles themselves are made of a mixture of synthetic rubber containing various additives. Among the most frequently used additives are various varieties of clay or soot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the early days of climbing, traditional boots with leather soles were used for climbing. The use of the first rubber soles came only at the beginning of the 20th century, when with the rapidly increasing difficulty of ascents, climbers began to place higher demands on their climbing shoes. During the last century, climbing shoes were reborn from bulky boots reminiscent of mountain boots, into light and especially grippy climbing shoes as we know them today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first specifically climbing shoe using a compound created for the needs of rock climbing was Boreal Fire<\/a>. In the 1970s, Boreal reshaped the entire climbing scene with its single decision. The use of this revolutionary mixture made it possible to accelerate the emergence of new legends of the climbing sport, who could thus push the limit of the impossible. The difficulty of sports routes and boulders has increased by one whole level with the advent of these shoes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Softer or harder climbing<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The differences in the compositions and construction of the shoes are significant. Most often, their differentiation occurs at the level of hardness, where each of these options carries its own specific advantages and disadvantages. Each shoe is therefore suitable for a different use. This phenomenon can be observed in some professional athletes who use different pairs of shoes on different rocks, and in some extreme cases they use two different climbing shoes at the same time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Softer shoes excel in grip, they are directly created for rubbing and climbing on softer rocks (sandstone, limestone). Of course, to achieve high adhesion, they have to make compromises on other fronts. The soles using softer sole rubbers are not very thick, the compounds used are created with a lower content of additives, reducing the overall resistance. The surface of the soles wears more easily.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Harder climbing shoes are suitable for use on those the most delicate holds<\/a>. Their construction allows the use of thicker soles, which are additionally supported by additives that further harden the rubber. Harder shoes tend to last longer. However, their disadvantage is softer rocks, on which they are not able to achieve as high results as softer shoes do. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
