Shauna Coxsey, the UK's top climber, is the only representative from the island. Despite a string of injuries, Shauna maintains herself that she is in ideal shape for the Tokyo Games and that injury is not something that could stop her from going for gold. As the only female climber, she will have the full support of her homeland during the Olympics. It is her performances that the British love to such an extent that they call her a climbing sensation. She also earned a letter from Queen Elizabeth II.

Career

Shauna Coxsey has been climbing since she was four years old. She started her career as a junior in 2008 and has practically not left the stage since then. Its dominant feature is competitive bouldering. A fact that certainly cannot be denied. During her professional adult career, she achieved six World Championship medals (two gold), and five golds from the CWIF and British Championships. At the same time, she was the third woman who could claim the top on the boulder rated V14 – 2014, New Baseline.

You'd be forgiven for thinking that Shauna Coxsey is only dominant in bouldering. But that's not the case. This British champion is able to stand up to others and win in both speed and difficulty climbing. He is the current holder of the British speed record (9.14 seconds). The fact that she does not compete in these disciplines makes it very difficult to determine how good she really is.

Shauna Coxsey and Tokyo 2021

Coxsey qualified for the Olympics as the bronze medalist in the combined format at the 2019 World Championships, proving that she is indeed an Olympic combined threat. Shauna is, as is Rishat Khaibullin, one of the few climbers who didn't have to adapt to the Olympic format. Her ascent to the podium is something that would not surprise anyone.

Shauna's strategy, like everyone else's, is conditioned by the combo format. Her path will most likely lead through bouldering, lead and, in the last row, speed. She has a good chance to win the boulder, although it will be a battle for zones with the second boulder favorite Akiyo Nogichu. After that, the goal will be to place as best as possible in the difficulty climb, ideally in the top five, and make as few mistakes as possible on speed. What could prevent Shauna from achieving her goals are her previous injuries. A scenario we don't wish on any climber.

Finally

In addition to her climbing titles, Shauna Coxsey has one more unconventional boast. In 2016, she became a Member of the Order of the British Empire, one of the highest honors the British monarch can bestow. She is also one of "those active" climbers with a YouTube channel where she uploads videos once every few months.
