Eventually, she established herself as a dominant figure in bouldering. However, he is the only Tokyo Games participant with extensive ice climbing experience. Her winter experience could bring variety to the already varied races.

Career

Petra started climbing, just like most athletes, at a very young age. In the Klingler family, Petra and her brother are the third generation of active climbers. Petra started climbing competitions relatively "late", compared to other climbers. She only started at the age of 13. At first she was attracted to climbing for difficulty, then she switched to bouldering. In terms of difficulty, he mainly competes in ice climbing.

Klingler broke onto the world stage late. Her first big win was winning the World Bouldering Championship in 2015 when Petra was 23 years old. In the same year, she also took the bronze position of the world ice-climbing championship. Over the next five years, Petra Klingler's name became synonymous with bouldering and superhuman endurance. Petra took home gold as world champion in bouldering in 2016 and bronze in ice climbing. It was that third place that tied her to her stamina when she suffered a knee injury on the wall, but she continued to climb despite it until the pain was too much to force her to descend.

Petra Klingler and Tokyo 2021

Petra Klingler is going to the Olympic Games in Tokyo with a solid chance of a podium. In 2019, she placed first in the national competition in all three Olympic disciplines. The subsequent qualification for Tokyo 2021, where she scored 126 points, showed her abilities. Petra was third in speed climbing, seventh in bouldering and sixth in difficulty climbing. So she finished last in her dominant discipline, especially because she was beaten in it by four Japanese climbers. However, there will only be two in Tokyo. This gives Petra a chance to place at least third in the combined format if she performs as well on the speed wall as she did in qualifying.
