The first printed guidebook: Pine Rock

Hello to everybody!
As we said in plans for 2023, the physical book is here! It took a long time, but here it is: Book edition of our guide to Borová skála. Pre-sale opened on Wednesday, 18.1. and expected delivery by March 1, 2023 and a price of CZK 155!

You are probably asking yourself several questions, such as why it is only Borová skála and not the entire Prokop valley, why it is released only in March and what will be there. Don't worry, it's not all random and there is a certain logic behind it.

The most common question we get is "Why is it only Borová skála". This is because Borová skála is the only place in the Prokop Valley where climbing is allowed. Other sectors, such as Jezírko or Poštolčí plotny, are prohibited. And what Žvahov? Technically speaking, this is still part of the Prokop Valley, but the type of rock and the style of climbing (and actually the location) make it more Hlubočepské plates. Therefore, it will only be published in a separate guide with them.

Why March?

We have two main reasons for this. The first is that we leave some time for possible last minute fixes. The second is the climbing permit in the area, which has not yet been officially renewed for 2023. Therefore, the planned release is until the time when we can go to the area and really explore it with a book in hand.

What will be in the guide?

Now probably the most important thing: what will actually be in the guide. Climbing sectors are ready Pine rock and Amphitheater + two boulder sectors: Boulder Pine rock and Above the Pine Rock. They are photographed, with the paths digitally marked into the photos themselves. Of course, including insurance and clearly visible variants. Sectors are GPS marked with added descriptions of the area and access from various directions, including car parks and major public transport links.

If you are not sure whether the "Guide: Pine Rock" is suitable or worthwhile for you, you can take a look at its online version. All sectors – sports and bouldering – are already online at the time of pre-ordering the book. The photos and route descriptions are the same, so don't worry. But in physical form there is a little more "fluff" to the area, access, ethics climbing as well as "tickmarks" for each route.

In conclusion

Although we are still finishing the final design steps, pre-order is open. We'd love to hear your thoughts on email, Instagram or on Facebook. Especially then if you think that some of our drawn paths on Pine rocks or one of the other sectors does not correspond to reality. Hopefully that won't be the case and the Borová skála Guide will be able to come out a little sooner than we expect.

Good luck climbing!
